Modern problems require modern solutions, and it appears Supercars’ organisers have just the thing.
Following Supercars Championship’s decision to postpone events this year due to combat COVID-19, the season will continue in the form of the ‘Supercars All Stars Eseries’ – a competition between its real-life racers held online using racing simulators.
The professional drivers will compete from their homes using ‘iRacing’, a simulator that is largely considered the most realistic offering available. Points will be awarded each race, however will enter a separate tally specifically for the All Stars Eseries.
“This is a great opportunity to embrace and engage the growing Supercars fan base into the eSports community,” a Supercars spokesperson told CarAdvice.
All drivers from the Virgin Supercars Championship have signed on to compete in the Eseries, which will commence on April 8 and run for about 10 weeks.
CarAdvice believes all Supercars team members – including mechanics and additional staff – will still be paid during the Eseries and that nobody has lost their job.
Round one races will take place at a simulated Phillip Island and Monza, while the rest of the roster is yet to be confirmed. Drivers can get behind the digitised wheel of a Holden ZB Commodore or Ford Mustang Supercar.
While a modern solution to a problem, Supercars is no stranger to simulated racing: the organisation has hosted an entire Eseries season as well as its regular Supercars Championship in previous years.
“Our Eseries events support the strategic objectives of Supercars by broadening audience bases across a non-traditional esports space," Supercars said.

Whether the All Star Eseries will become a regular on the Supercars calendar is still undecided, the organisation telling CarAdvice the All Stars Eseries is, at this point, “a stand-alone series and will run prior to the third instalment of the Supercars Eseries competition ... later this year.”
The Supercars All Stars Eseries will be broadcasted on Fox Sports and Kayo, with the official start date and sponsorship partnerships to be announced in the coming days.
Fans will also be able to tune into a live broadcast on Supercars.com, Supercars’ social media channels and live video game streaming service Twitch.
